About

Benny Charles started his music career DJ’ing as part of a newly formed underground style of music on the Chicago south side back in the late 80’s coined “house music” which originated from a Chicago night club named “The Warehouse”. Benny Charles toured the Chicago south, west, and east side spinning at clubs, block parties, house parties, and any other place that had an electrical outlet with some of house music’s legends; Frankie Knuckles, Farley Keith, Fast Eddie, and Chip E to name a few.

After a lengthy break from the music scene, Benny Charles discovered and cultivated his own style and sound in the California Bay Area, and began ghost writing & producing several west coast artists when he wasn’t busy working as a mix and mastering sound engineer. Benny Charles sound is influenced by a wide variety of genres from Hip-Hop, R&B, and Gospel to Blues, Rock, Funk, and Classical music. His influences are easily recognized from his hard hitting Hip Hop electronic 808’s & 909’s mixed with natural Funk Soul Horn sections, and live orchestral instruments of cellos, violas, and violins.

The album Rhythm Blues & Gospel; A Story Of Love, Hope, & Faith is his 1st solo production in over a decade released to worldwide distribution. Recording began in the spring of 2016 and in making of this album Benny Charles brought together some of the finest vocal performers from all over the globe delivering both unique and heartfelt performances. Rhythm Blues & Gospel is scheduled to be released in the late summer or early fall of 2018 and is said to be a genre fluid collection of music and spoken word poetry from some of the world’s best vocalists produced over Neo-Soul, Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, and  Neo-Gospel arraignments.
